“Right Now Kapow” is a real show starting today!

For the past year I have been working hard at making people believe I’m an unemployed liar — AKA working on an animated TV show that had not yet been announced.

“What do you write for Warner Brothers?” people would ask.

“SECRETS!” I’d bellow. Then I’d slowly turn my head to wink at them, “Arrest Development” Jessica Walter-style, so they wouldn’t miss it.

They’d stare.

“I GO TO WARNER BROTHERS EVERY DAY TO WORK ON SECRETS!!!!” I’d clarify, face contorting into a knowing smile, lips peeling over gums as I bared teeth. Isn’t this fun? my smile said. We’re in on this secret together!

“I think ‘Warner Brothers’ is the name of the winnebago she lives in,” these friends would whisper to each other when they met up to plan my intervention. “Also there’s something wrong with her face.”

But today that show is secret no longer: “Right Now Kapow” has finally been announced! Produced by WB and Disney and set to air on Disney XD, “Right Now Kapow” will start airing September 19. To paraphrase the press release:

Right Now Kapow, an all-new original animated sketch comedy series from Warner Bros. Animation, will premiere on Disney XD on Monday, September 19 at 9:00 p.m. (EDT). This marks the first original series from Warner Bros. Animation to be produced with Disney XD.  Delightfully silly, weird and frenetic, each half-hour episode includes various sketches and jokes showcasing the show’s colorful cast of characters – Dog, Moon, Ice Cream, Candy, Diamond and Plant…

Containing a multitude of comedy sketches and quirky songs, each episode of the character-based sketch series takes audiences on a journey of endless comedic possibilities. The talented voice actors play multiple parts in every episode as their characters change with every sketch premise…The series features a talented voice cast of performers from the world of stand-up comedy and improv including Michael Blaiklock (Don’t Trust the B—in Apartment 23) as Dog, Alana Johnston (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) as Candy, Kyle Kinane (Those Who Can’t) as Ice Cream, Emily Maya Mills (Key & Peele) as Diamond, Betsy Sodaro (Superstore) as Plant and Baron Vaughn (Grace and Frankie) as Moon.

Scroll for our teaser trailer and poster, and bask in the glory of the upcoming show my friend Dan called, “darker, smarter, and more laugh-out-loud funny than 90% of the kids content out there,” and animation blog Cartoon Brew called, “deliberately incompetent-looking animation”!
